The very things for which Western democracy is most criticized, such as loss of morality, the crisis of authority, and the reduction of life to the self centered pursuit of immediate material gain, do not originate in democracy but in the loss of spirituality. This spirituality is the only genuine source of responsibility and self respect. When we lose or temporarily misplace our moral and ethical standards, democracy loses much of its credibility.

Our values, our ethics, rather than the laws, are waking us up to the necessity for change in how each one of us live. These ethics will be the guiding light that is providing direction. Now, in this time of change, these ethics will come into play as each one of us is faced with a situation that is new. These ethics will support us in understanding the complexity of new changes. Our morality will comfort us as we struggle with changes that do not necessarily hold any instant gratification except that of doing what's right.

The Environmental Law Institute - The Environmental Law Institute is an independent, active, non-profit center conducting policy studies on the environment and sustainability, and reaching out with education, publications, and technical assistance across the US and abroad.

Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy - The Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy seeks to revitalize the international regime for the environment. It aims to facilitate thought and discourse on how to strengthen environmental policymaking at the global scale and to advance the dialogue on the functions, structure, financing, and activities of the global environmental regime. Our work is based on the premise that there exist serious problems of failed collective action, institutional fragmentation, and deficient authority within the current global environmental governance architecture.

The West Coast Sustainability Center - West Coast Environmental Law is BC's legal champion for the environment. Through legal advice, education and advocacy, West Coast provides citizens and organizations with the knowledge, tools and innovative solutions needed to protect our environment and build sustainability locally, nationally and internationally.

A Citizen's Guide to Environmental Law - The District of Columbia Department of Health, Environmental Health Administration is tasked with enforcing District and federal environmental laws and regulations. The Administration is committed to consistent, timely, and appropriate enforcement, which is protective of the public health and the environment, while creating a credible deterrent to possible future violations.
